Projects for nature

Projects for Nature is an online platform that connects businesses and donors with 23 nature recovery projects across England (all of which have been screened by experts).

The Council for Sustainable Business joined forces with Accenture, Crowdfunder, Defra, Natural England and the Environment Agency to address an urgent gap in the nature finance landscape by bringing Projects for Nature to life.

Why does nature need finance?

Nature is our most valuable asset, we rely on it to produce food, shelter and clean water and land eco systems play a role in regulating our climate, everything is connected.

To maintain a successful eco system we need to limit negative impacts but also create ways to promote and support it’s health long term.

The Government, in 2024, set out an approach to improve the state of nature through its Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP), in alignment with International goals agreed under the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Private finance plays a vital role in delivering this plan.

The Government has set a goal that, by 2027, £500 million of private investment must go into nature recovery every year. This target rises to £1 billion each year by 2030. The urgency of nature loss leaves little time for delay – action is needed from all sectors to dramatically scale up the amount of finance into nature recovery.

Businesses are adopting the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and some companies setting targets to reduce their nature impact through the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN).

The Great British Beach Clean

September 20 - September 29

The Great British Beach Clean is an annual event organized by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) that brings together thousands of volunteers to clean up beaches across the UK. This week-long initiative not only helps to remove litter from the coastlines but also contributes to important scientific research by collecting data on the types and amounts of litter found. The event aims to raise awareness about the impact of marine pollution, encourage sustainable practices, and protect the UK’s beautiful beaches and marine life.
